Mohsin guides Pakistan to quarter-final in ICC U-19 EC


DHAKA, Feb 3, 2016 (BSS)- An allround performance by Hasan Mohsin steered Pakistan to the quarter-finals of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup beating Sri Lanka by 23 runs in the group B encounter held on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city.

Chasing a winning target of 213 runs set by Pakistan, Sri Lanka started their chase not in a positive manner as they lost their opener Avishka Fernando (2) early in the innings and finally dismissed at 189 runs in 46.4 overs.

First down Kamindu Mendis offered some resistance with a gritty 68 runs off 104-ball laced with five boundaries while Vishad Randika was the second highest scorer for Pakistan with 46 runs off 71-ball with the help of five boundaries.

Shadab Khan was the pick of Pakistan bowlers taking three wickets for 31 runs. He was well supported by Ahmad Shafiq, Hasan Mohsin and Sameen Gul, who bagged two wickets each conceding 23, 28 and 29 runs respectively.

Hasna Mohsin of Pakistan was named the player of the match for his brilliant all round performance in the match.

Earlier, put to bat first by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, rode on Hasan Mohsin’s responsible half century, were all out for 212 in 48.4 overs.

Mohsin, the hero of the match, played an impressive run-a-ball 86 runs with the help of eight boundaries and one over boundary and shared 61 runs stand with Salman Fayyaz (33) for the 4th wicket stand taking Pakistan over 150 runs and eventually that partnership helped Pakistan to cross 200 landmark.

Wanidu Hasanranga,Thilan Nimesh and Damitha Silva bagged two wickets each conceding 30, 38 and 41 runs respectively.
