Bangladesh will face India in the final of Boys’ Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium at 3.00pm today (Friday).
Bangladesh earlier defeated India 5-4 in their opening group stage game before thrashing Oman 10-0 in the second match to emerge as group champions from Pool A.
Bangladesh U-18 have never reached the final of an international tournament before and the last time they took part in the same competition was in 2001 which was 15 years back. They finished fifth among 10 teams in that competition.
Today, the hosts reached the final of Boys’ Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey beating Chinese Taipei by 6-1 in the first semifinal.
Bangladesh came into the semifinals with dominating wins against mighty India and Oman.
Expectations are very high among the Bangladesh hockey fans as they hope host team will not disappoint them and pull on another incredible win against India in the final while Indian camp are confident that they have recovered from that upset win and are looking forward to lift the desirable trophy.
