Zila Parishad Polls: Voting postponed in Noakhali’s 4 wards

The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday postponed the voting to all posts in ward no. four and the voting to councilor posts in ward no. two, six and nine in the Zila Parishad elections following cases filed with the High Court.

M Maniruzzaman, Election Commissioner of the district, postponed the voting for all posts at Kankirhat Bahumukhi High School polling station in Senbagh upazila.

He also postponed voting for the councilor post in ward no two, six and nine in Sonaimuri, Bagamganj and Noakhali municipality respectively.

The decision came few minutes before the voting in the maiden election to 59 Zila Parishads (district councils) across the country began on Wednesday morning in a non-partisan manner unlike the polls to other local government bodies.

Some 23,000 members of law enforcement agencies, including police, Rab, BGB, Coast Guard and Ansar, will maintain the law and order to ensure congenial atmosphere in election areas.  A 20-member security team will guard each polling station.
