The Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 on Wednesday said that it would complete by September 18 the hearing of arguments in the cases for August 21, 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.
Tribunal judge Shahed Nuruddin on the day heard arguments of the prosecution and adjourned until September 17.
Prosecution lawyers said that the tribunal might set a date for the pronouncement of the verdict after the conclusion of arguments.
During the hearing, chief prosecutor Syed Rezaur Rahman said that they were able to produce 225 of the 511 prosecution witnesses.
He argued that the defence counsel wanted to argue about the legality of second confession of Mufti Abdul Hannan Munshi, who was later executed in another case.
‘There is nothing called first or second in Section 164 [the recording of statement] in the law, rather it was the continuation of one after another,’ he argued.
He said that Mufti Hannan first made his statement on November 1, 2007 and then ‘continued’ it on April 7,
2011.
He also argued that 41 prosecution witnesses corroborated his statement.
