President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the 98th birthday of the great leader.
The Prime Minister paid the homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at the historic 32 Dhanmondi Road of Dhaka in the morning.
After laying the wreaths, she stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation.
Cabinet members, parliament members and political leaders were present.
Later, flanked by party central leaders of Awami League, she placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party as the president of Bangladesh Awami League.
Party general secretary Obaidul Quader, senior Awami League leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Begum Matia Chowdhury, Adv Sahara Khatun, Adv Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Adv Afzal Hussain were, among others, present.
On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the spirited leader of Bangalee nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times, was born in a greatly respected Muslim family in Tungipara village of Gopalganj.
The birthday of Bangabandhu is being observed across the country as the National Children’s Day.
