Police arrested a man accused of provoking Hazrat Ali and his eight-year-old daughter Ayesha Akhter to commit suicide in Gazipur’s Shreepur upazila on Wednesday.
The arrested person, named Shaheed, was taken from his maternal uncle’s house in Kapasia upazila around 5:00am, according to Kaiser Ahmed, a sub-inspector of local police station.
Hazrat, 55, committed suicide along with daughter Ayesha, by jumping before a running train near Sreepur Railway Station on April 29, after being frustrated with no response from authorities to his complaints about an attempt to violate the minor girl.
A case was filed by Halima Begum, wife of Hazrat, accusing seven people of provoking the victims to commit suicide.
Earlier, police arrested primary accused Abul Hossain, a union parishad member, connected with the incident. A two day remand was placed for him.
