Apollo Hospitals operates complicated laparoscopic surgery

A 35 years old gentleman has been cured from a critical condition of carcinoma lower rectum through a complicated key-hole surgery operated successfully at Apollo Hospitals Dhaka recently.

The patient admitted in the hospital under Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Farid Hossain, a renowned G.I Surgical oncologist. Later he was gone through the surgery followed by adjuvant therapy as per the decision of the tumor board comprised of Oncologist, Pathologist, Radiologist and an Administrator.

The surgery was performed on 30th July with laparoscopy (key hole surgery – without cutting abdomen), it is called laparoscopic abdominoperineal excision of Rectum.

Patient was given oral diet from post-surgery day-2 onward. He was discharged on 3rd August & did not have any complain during his stay in the hospital.

Laparoscopic surgery is less traumatic, almost blood less (does not require any blood transfusion) with min. pain during post-operative period, Early mobilization & early feeding helped early discharge & return to normal work.

Moreover, this kind of surgery does not cost more compare to conventional open surgery. It cost at least 5-10 times more in abroad. More over regular follow up is not easy, so why to go abroad?
