Dhaka Metropolitan Police will restrict vehicular movement around Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital ahead of a mass reception to be accorded to prime minister Sheikh Hasina by the ruling Awami League.
The Awami League will accord the reception to the prime minister for attaining the eligibility to graduate to a developing nation, launching Bangabandhu Satellite-1, her achievement of Global Women’s Leadership Award from US-based NGO Global Summit of Women, and her receiving DLitt from Kazi Nazrul University of India.
Much before the programme would begin at 3:00pm, the police said they will off limit the roads from Shahbagh crossing to Matsya Bhaban and TSC to Doyel Square from 1:00pm till end of the programme.
Besides, vehicles going towards Suhrawardy Udyan and Dhaka University campus may be diverted through Banglamotors, Kakrail Church, Purana Paltan crossing, Zero Point, Golap Shah Mazar in Gulistan, Chankhar Pool crossing, Bakshi Bazar, Plassey crossing, Nilkhet, and Kantaban crossing, it says.
People coming from Mirpur to the function are asked to park their vehicles in Nilkhet area.
Besides, those coming from Uttara and Mohakhali are advised to drive through Moghbazar-Kakrail Church-Nightingale-UBL-Zero Point-High Court to Doyel square and park their vehicles at Dhaka University sports ground.
Vehicles coming through Farmgate-Sonargaon intersection-Shahbagh intersection have been directed to turn right from TSC and park at the university mall.
Also, those coming from Jatrabari, Wari and Bangshal areas are advised to drive through Zero Point-High Court to Doyel square and park the vehicles at the university sports ground, while vehicles coming from Lalbagh and Kamrangirchar areas would have to park in Plassey -Nilkhet area.
