8,000 cases on risky buildings in limbo

Housing and public works minister SM Rezaul Karim has said currently around 8,000 cases on risky buildings are pending in courts.

‘The cases have either been stayed or in injunction status,’ he said while briefing journalists at the ministry’s conference room in Secretariat on Monday.

The briefing took place after a meeting held on urban resilience project.

Sometimes the risky building owners go to court after getting notices showing the notices are not written specifically, the minister said.

‘Legal matters have to be solved,’ he said, adding, ‘We don’t want to do anything violating laws.’

‘We’ll appoint more expert lawyers in these cases,’ he added.
