Talent hunt for new film actors launched

A reality show to discover aspiring film actors was launched on Sunday at the festival hall of Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital.

The reality show, titled Notun Mukher Shondhane’, has been launched by Bangladesh Film Directors Association, in association with Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, 28 years after the last talent hunt was organised by BFDC in 1990.

The talent hunt aims at discovering new actors in seven categories, including hero, heroine, villain, comedian, supporting character artiste and child artiste.

Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the registration process of the talent hunt, in presence of cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, state minister for information Tarana Halim, Bangladesh Film Directors Association president Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, actor Alamgir and others.

‘Seasoned artistes and film associations must work together for creating a vibrant film industry. Organising talent hunts for introducing new faces in the country’s film scene is very important’, said Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, who inaugurated the website of the talent hunt.

Welcoming the initiative, Asaduzzaman Noor said, ‘We will have to make sure that the new actors discovered through the talent hunt get necessary platforms for showcasing their talents’.

State minister for information Tarana Halim said, ‘The film industry is struggling. All the film associations need to work together to make the scene vibrant’.

Participants from across the country can register their names at the website of Natun Mukher Sandhane 2018 till October 16. In November, the divisional rounds of the talent hunt will be held at all eight divisions and the national-level competition will be held in December.

‘We hope to complete the talent hunt by the end of the year. The talent hunt will give aspiring actors the chance to showcase their talent and build a career in the local film industry’, said Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar.

Actors Alamgir, Afzal Hossain, Gulshan Ara Champa, Jaya Ahsan and director Amjad Hossain will judge the competition.

Many noted actors in Dhallywood like Manna, Misha Sawdagor, Ilias Kanchan and others debuted in Dhallywood through previous talent hunts organised by BFDC in 1984, 1986 and 1990.
