Road crashes kill 4 in Bagerhat, Gopalganj


Four people, including a couple, were killed and another person was injured in road accidents in Bagerhat and Gopalganj districts on Tuesday.

In Bagerhat, two students were killed and another was injured as a trolley crashed into their motorcycle on Bagerhat-Rupsha Old Road in Sadar upazila in the morning, UNB reports.

The deceased were identified as Tanna Jamaddar, 19, a Class-XI student of Rangdia Collegiate School in the upazila and son of Khairul Alam Jamaddar of Jatrapur village, and Shakib, 14, a JSC student.

Shakib, hailing from Dhaka, came here to visit his grandfather (mother’s father) at Masidpur village in the upazila several days ago.

Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model Police Station M Mizanur Rahman said the speedy brick-laden trolley hit the bike at Jatrapur Bazar around 10 am, leaving two motorcyclists dead on the spot and another, Amit Das, 18, injured.

The injured was first taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

In Gopalganj, a couple died on the spot after a bus hit their motorcycle on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Fakirkandi village in Sadar upazila at noon.

The deceased are M Khalid Sheikh, 28, son of late Saidur Rahman Banat Sheikh, and his wife Suraiya Begum of the village.

The accident took place around 1:15pm when Khalid, a Saudi Arabia expatriate, was returning home along with his wife by the motorcycle from Government Bangabandhu College in the district town after her examination.
